Semporna is a town located in the east coast of Sabah, Malaysia on the island of Borneo. The name Semporna, means place of rest, in local Bajaus language and as the name suggest, facing straight the magnificent Sulawesi (Celebes) Sea, Semporna is one the most famous tourist destination in Sabah.
Semporna is famous as gate-way to underwater paradise Sipadan island some 36 kilometres southeast of town and it also had others 48 Island surrounding. Not far from Semporna town has a marine park named under Tun Sakaran Marine Park blessed with a high biodiversity of marine life and beautiful islands with white sandy beach that awaiting for explore, Semporna itself offer the best dive site and the exquisite marine environment to be marvel at.
It is not only the underwater environment that captured hearts of many tourist to make Semporna as their holiday destination. It is the friendly people, the lifestyle and the rich culture that never fail to fascinated the outsider and leave such a smiling remarkable memory to those who had been there that make them want to come again.
The majority of the population is Bajau, many of whom live in sprawling stilt fishermen villages over the water on the outskirts of town. The culture that brought by the Filipinos, Bajau Pelauh and Indonesian that had been settled in Semporna area and islands nearby adapt well with the local culture there that make Semporna has it own unique culture.
